Our notes
Zimbabwe trains the most demanding safari guides in Africa and it shows. Hwange has enormous elephant herds and very few vehicles; Mana Pools, on the Zambezi, permits walking safaris that are among the most exciting on the continent; Malilangwe and the Gonarezhou in the south east are wilder still. Victoria Falls is the entry point and deserves two nights, at full flood between March and May and at its most swimmable at Devil's Pool from August. Game viewing is best in the dry months from July to October.
