Overview

Villa d'Este stands on the shore of Lake Como in Cernobbio, in a building first constructed as a private residence in the 16th century. The hotel's 151 rooms are divided between two structures on the estate, the Cardinal's Building and the Queen's Pavilion, each furnished with antique pieces and fabrics typical of the period. Four private villas sit within the surrounding park, offering accommodation separate from the main house.

Dining runs across several venues. The Veranda restaurant, in the Cardinal's Building, opens onto views of the lake and gardens through retractable glass walls, with cooking overseen by Executive Chef Andrea Guerini, who leads a team of over 60 chefs. The Grill serves grilled meats and seafood near the Queen's Pavilion, moving into the garden in summer. Il Platano is a lakeside terrace serving Mediterranean and Japanese dishes, open through summer. Bar Canova, open since 1873, focuses on cocktails and spirits, and the Sundeck bar by the floating pool is reserved for hotel guests. In winter, the Greenhouse operates as a dining room overlooking the lake, and a Chocolate Room appears in Sala Colonne in December and January. The wine list has grown from 300 to over 10,000 labels since Alex Bartoli became Wine Director in 2022.

Golf is played at the Villa d'Este Golf Club, 14 kilometres from the hotel near Montorfano. The 18-hole course was designed in 1926 by architect Peter Gannon, sits 400 metres above sea level, and was owned by the hotel until the late 1970s before being reacquired in 2024. It is open daily from March to December, except on Tuesdays. Its clubhouse restaurant, La Terrazza al Golf, overlooks the 18th hole and is run by chef Orazio Stella under the supervision of Andrea Guerini. Elsewhere on the estate, guests can join the Sporting Club, arrange boat tours of the lake, or book sessions in yoga, pilates and tai chi.
