Overview

Amanyangyun sits on 140 hectares at the edge of Shanghai, built around a camphor forest and a scatter of Ming- and Qing-dynasty stone villas relocated from rural Fuzhou, 700 kilometres away. When a reservoir project was approved there, a local philanthropist partnered with Aman to move 50 antique villas and a thousand camphor trees to this site, re-establishing them around lakes, courtyards and gardens. A single camphor tree weighing 80 tonnes stands at the centre of the grounds, and a seedling programme has been introduced in its honour.

The resort holds 24 Suites and 11 Antique Villas. Suites and Pavilions are contemporary, light-filled rooms set within the woodland. Antique Villas, built from the relocated historic structures, each hold four bedrooms arranged around private courtyards and pools, giving the resort an intimate, village-like layout rather than a conventional hotel block.

Five restaurants operate across the grounds, among them Arva, a lakeside Italian restaurant drawing on farm-to-table tradition, Lazhu, which focuses on Jiangxi and Cantonese cuisine, and Yinlu, built around Chinese hotpot tradition. A 200 square-metre organic garden supplies the kitchens, and guests can join chefs on a guided tour of it. The Amanyangyun Spa & Wellness Centre runs the resort's wellness programme, and Nan Shufang, at the heart of the property, is dedicated to revealing China's cultural heritage. A Children's Discovery Centre runs family activities, and both overnight guests and outside visitors can arrange to dine in the restaurants or visit the spa through the reservations team.
