Overview

Upper House Shanghai stands in the Dazhongli neighbourhood of Jing'an District, at No. 366 Shi Men Yi Road. The hotel, formerly known as The Middle House, keeps a residential approach to design, with studios and serviced apartments rather than conventional hotel rooms. General manager Olivier Dumonceaux describes the property as being in the cultural and geographical middle of Shanghai, close to the city's art, fashion and food scenes.

Accommodation ranges from the 50 square metre Studio 50 to the 660 square metre Penthouse, a two-bedroom suite with terraces on the top floor. Most studios and apartments come with a king bed and city views, and several, including Studio 60 and Studio 70, offer a terrace option. Apartments such as Apartment 90 and Apartment 110 extend to two bedrooms for guests who want more room to entertain.

The hotel runs four dining rooms: Café Gray Deluxe on the third floor, serving modern European food with Asian influences beside one of the city's larger outdoor terraces overlooking Nanjing West Road; Sui Tang Li, a Shanghainese bistro from chef Tony Ye; its adjoining private dining rooms, designed by Mitchell & Eades; and Sui Tang Shang, reached by a spiral staircase and used for private events. Wellness facilities include Mi Xun Spa, a 25 metre heated pool with a poolside juice bar, a Technogym-equipped gym open around the clock, and a sauna and steam room. The hotel also hosts private events and weddings, including in its dedicated Penthouse space.
