Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge sits on the banks of a tributary of the Grumeti River, in the western reaches of Serengeti National Park, an area the lodge describes as remote and uncrowded. Hippos wallow in the water below the rooms, and wildlife moves past through the year. The lodge was named Best Resort in Central and Eastern Africa at the Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Awards 2025.
Ten Suites face the river, including one Family Suite with a second, smaller bedroom for children. The standard Suite covers 95 square metres under roof, or 130 square metres including the deck and private plunge pool, and takes a maximum of two guests. The Family Suite covers 134 square metres under roof, or 195 square metres including deck and pool, for up to two adults and two children (a third child can be accommodated on request at an additional cost). Each Suite has a deep-soaking tub, an indoor rain shower, a private plunge pool and an in-suite bar kept stocked by a butler. The lodge states it was built with sustainability at its core.
Activities include twice-daily game drives tailored to guests' interests, guided nature walks, and birdwatching across more than 350 recorded species, with a Star Birds checklist available from guides. A hot air balloon safari, stargazing, private yoga sessions by the river and in-suite wellness treatments using Healing Earth products are available at an additional cost, as is a full-day visit to the Lukungu community, which supports education, healthcare and clean water access through Wild Impact. The lodge lies within the western Serengeti, where the Great Migration can be seen, including river crossings.
