Overview

Punakha River Lodge sits beside the Mo Chu in Bhutan's Punakha Valley, among paddy fields, forested hills and views toward the Himalaya. It is &Beyond's first fully owned lodge in Asia and brings the group's light-footprint approach to the kingdom. The lodge comprises six Tented Suites, a private River House and a two-bedroom Family Suite, built in handcrafted Bhutanese style using traditional timber construction.

Each of the six Tented Suites is suspended from a traditional Bhutanese timber structure and positioned to ensure privacy. Suites include an en-suite bathroom with both an indoor and an outdoor shower, a star bath and a private verandah. They are intended for couples, with a maximum occupancy of two adults; triple occupancy is permitted only for children aged five and under. The River House offers a private one-bedroom villa for guests wanting additional space, while the two-bedroom Family Suite is designed for families travelling together.

Days at the lodge are built around the rhythm of the river and valley: hikes, temple visits, river adventures, and lunches beneath orange trees. Guests can paddle the Mo Chu, walk the rice terraces, take a traditional hot stone bath, or receive a monk's blessing. Activities included in the rate are morning yoga, mountain biking, archery and darts, and evening cooking classes in a traditional Bhutanese kitchen; rafting, kayaking and spa treatments are available at an additional cost. From May to June and through December 2026, the lodge hosts a Wellness Master in Residence, Vijaya Goyal, offering guests included group wellness sessions and optional one-on-one treatments.
