Overview
Six Senses Thimphu sits on a hillside above Thimphu Valley, looking across to the 170 ft (52 m) Buddha Dordenma statue. The architecture follows Bhutanese principles of simplicity and harmony, with wood-burning bukhari stoves, floor-to-ceiling windows and private decks framing the mountain and valley views. The lodge is one of five Six Senses properties in Bhutan, alongside Punakha, Paro, Gangtey and Bumthang, and forms part of a journey through the kingdom's valleys arranged with a private guide, driver and vehicle.
Accommodation ranges from the Lodge Suite and Upper Lodge Suite, both 829 sq. ft. (77 sq. m.) for up to three guests, to the One-Bedroom Villa at 1,797 sq. ft. (167 sq. m.) with a private garden and a dining area for four. The Two-Bedroom Villa, at 3,196 sq. ft. (297 sq. m.) for up to eight guests, and the Three-Bedroom Villa, at 3,756 sq. ft. (349 sq. m.) for up to eleven guests, each have a private open courtyard, a double spa treatment room and a dedicated Guest Experience Maker on call around the clock. The Three-Bedroom Villa is set among pine trees and is the only villa of its size in Thimphu Valley.
Days at the lodge might begin with morning mindfulness led by a lama in the lodge's Prayer Pavilion overlooking Thimphu Valley, followed by a monastic school and astrology sitting with a Buddhist monk, archery after afternoon tea, or a hike to the hilltop monasteries of Cheri and Tango. Evenings can close with sunset cocktails at Nimnub point, looking towards Paro valley. Bhutan itself limits visitor numbers in favour of what it calls high-value, low-volume tourism, and is described on the property's own pages as the first country in the world to be carbon negative.
