Overview

&Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas operates as two camps, each with nine tents, moving across the Serengeti National Park through the year to stay close to the Great Migration as herds of wildebeest gather, graze and move on. The camp's position shifts with the migration pattern, so guests are placed near the action rather than waiting for it to pass a fixed point.

Each tent covers 35 square metres and sleeps up to two guests, with an ensuite bathroom, a flushing WC, a heated outdoor bucket shower and a private veranda facing the plains. The Family Tent pairs two interleading tents of 24 and 35 square metres, sleeping up to four guests, with one available at each camp. Canvas walls mean light and sound from outside carry into the tent, a deliberate feature of the design.

Days follow a safari rhythm: twice-daily game drives led by &Beyond-trained guides, lunches set beneath trees or beside the tent, and evenings around the fire with the sky lit by stars from both hemispheres. A hot air balloon flight over the plains and a visit to Olduvai Gorge and the Shifting Sands dune are available at an additional cost, the latter only when the camp is positioned in the southern Serengeti. Rates are all-inclusive, covering accommodation, three meals daily, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages aside from champagne, cognac and fine wines, safari activities, one pair of Swarovski Optik binoculars per room, laundry, emergency evacuation insurance and transfers between the airstrip and camp. Children under six are not accommodated, and the camp can host a maximum of four children at any one time.
