Hotel · Sydney, Australia
A heritage-listed 1912 building in Sydney's Sandstone Precinct, now housing 192 rooms, three restaurants and a Level Six spa.
Capella Sydney occupies the former Department of Education building at 24 Loftus Street, in Sydney's Sandstone Precinct. The building dates from 1912 and is heritage-listed; its sandstone facade stood through decades of government use before the structure was converted into a hotel. It is Capella Hotels and Resorts' first Australian property, and the design keeps much of the original architecture in view, with historic details carried through bedrooms, corridors and the ground-floor public rooms.
The hotel has 192 guestrooms and suites arranged across eight levels. Rooms fall into four categories, Deluxe, Premier, Tower and Skyline, alongside a set of Accessible Rooms built with wider, more spacious layouts. Twenty-three Deluxe and Skyline Suites look out over some of Sydney's historic buildings, and four Prestige Suites sit at the top of the range. All rooms are fitted with Frette linen and Bamford amenities. On the ground floor, three food and beverage venues include the signature restaurant Brasserie 1930 and McRae Bar, alongside six meeting and event spaces, two ballrooms and three further meeting suites at The Lands by Capella.
Spa and wellness facilities sit on Level Six, run as Auriga Spa. The property has also appeared on several industry lists, including a place on The 50 Best Hotels for 2026, a Four Star rating from Forbes Travel Guide, and two keys in the Michelin Guide.
