Overview
Castello di Reschio sits at the centre of a 3,700-acre private estate in the Umbrian hills, near Lisciano Niccone. The castle itself is described as a thousand-year-old building, its oldest section, the Tower, dating to 900 AD. Once abandoned, the estate has been restored over the past three decades by the Bolza family, who work as architects, designers and custodians of the land. Beyond the castle walls, the estate holds more than 50 farmhouses, many of which have been brought back to life as private houses.
Inside the castle, rooms and suites follow the building's original layout rather than a uniform plan, so no two are alike. Categories range from the more intimate Rooms, starting at 30 square metres, up to the Tower Suite, a two-bedroom, five-floor space of 180 square metres with a rooftop terrace and a freestanding bathtub open to the sky. Interiors combine designs by the family's own BB for Reschio architecture and design studio with antique furniture and paintings. Every room looks over both the castle's courtyard garden and the surrounding countryside.
Life at Reschio extends across the wider estate: two restaurants, Ristorante al Castello and Ristorante Alle Scuderie, sit alongside three bars, and guests can also arrange an in-house chef or food delivery. The Bathhouse offers treatments that can be brought to guests' own houses, and the estate's grounds hold tennis courts, a gym, cycling and riding paths, and a lake. A biodynamic orto-flower garden supplies the kitchens, following lunar and planetary cycles for sowing and harvesting. For longer stays or larger groups, restored farmhouses across the estate, including Palmieri, Cercoschene and Tisciano, are available to rent as private villas.
