Overview
COMO Cocoa Island sits in the South Malé Atoll, on an island known locally as Makunufushi, about 30 kilometres south of Malé International Airport. Guests arrive by a 40-minute speedboat transfer, with no seaplane required. The resort has 33 overwater villas, built in the curved shape of traditional Maldivian dhoni boats and connected by wooden walkways, with one- to three-bedroom configurations and direct access to the lagoon. The whole island can also be taken as a private buyout for up to 72 guests, for weddings or other group occasions.
Dining is centred on Ufaa, an inside-outside restaurant serving Indian and Mediterranean dishes made with local produce and sustainably caught seafood, and Faru Bar, a poolside bar with direct beach access. COMO Shambhala Kitchen, the resort's health-focused menu, is served at Ufaa and through in-room dining, alongside options such as sandbank picnics and a villa-based yakiniku dinner. The COMO Shambhala Retreat has treatment rooms overlooking the lagoon, four massage pavilions (three for couples), a two-storey building with an open-air yoga pavilion above a fitness centre, a Pilates studio equipped with reformer, cadillac, ladder barrel and combo chair, and a hydrotherapy pool, one of the few in the Maldives, along with a steam room.
The house reef is reached directly from the villas, with complimentary snorkel gear, kayaks and paddleboards, daily yoga, and weekly talks with a resident marine biologist. Further afield, guests can snorkel with nurse sharks in the Vaavu Atoll, dive the surrounding reefs, or charter the resort's yacht, which has three cabins and both indoor and open-air dining spaces. The property holds EarthCheck Silver certification and runs its own water bottling, coral restoration and waste reduction programmes.
