El Palace Barcelona occupies a 1919 building near Passeig de Gràcia, once the site of The Ritz, with a rooftop pool that looks toward the Sagrada Família.
Overview
El Palace Barcelona stands in a 1919 building a short walk from Passeig de Gràcia, on the site of what first opened as The Ritz. The hotel keeps original details from that period, including a fireplace chosen by César Ritz that still furnishes several rooms, alongside contemporary additions such as Roche Bobois desks and marble bathrooms with walk-in rain showers.
Rooms range from the Classic Room, at 35 square metres for two guests, to suites built for longer stays or family groups. The Junior Suite, Deluxe Suite and Superior Suite each look onto the sunlit inner courtyard of the Eixample or across the city, while the Three-Bedroom Family Suite spans 140 square metres with two Junior Suites and a single room for up to seven guests. The Art Suites take their names from César Ritz, Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí, each reflecting a figure connected to the hotel or the city. The two El Palace Suites are named for Joséphine Baker and Ronnie Wood, the Rolling Stones guitarist who once stayed in the Art Deco rooms that now carry his name. Both suite categories include a separate living and dining area, private airport transfer, butler service and a champagne welcome.
Amar Barcelona, the restaurant led by chef Rafa Zafra, serves alongside the Rooftop Garden, which has its own swimming pool and a view toward the Sagrada Família, the Grand Hall and El Jardín, where breakfast is served. The Mayan Luxury Spa draws on Mayan tradition and French cosmetics from Anne Semonin, and was the first in Europe to offer a temazcal, a pre-Hispanic sauna built with volcanic rock and medicinal herbs. The hotel is a member of Leading Hotels of the World and of Royal Blue Bird, through which it runs experiences including a boat trip along the Costa Brava and a two-day stay at Palacio Domecq in Jerez.
