Overview

Il San Pietro di Positano sits on the cliff road at Laurito, just outside the town of Positano, with architecture built to blend indoor and outdoor space. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring natural light into the rooms, the lobby, the restaurants and the spa, and the sea forms part of the interior view. The flowers used for decoration come from the hotel's own gardens, and the vegetables served in its two restaurants are grown organically across roughly 6,000 square metres of terraced ground, arranged over ten cascading levels in the traditional style of the Amalfi Coast.

Zass, the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant, is run by chef Alois Vanlangenaeker and looks out over the sea; Carlino serves a more relaxed, beachside menu based on the same organic produce. The wine cellar holds over 600 labels, tasted by appointment in the Zass dining room. Guests can also join a guided walk through the terraced gardens, following the path that descends from the lobby to the private beach, the only one in Positano, reached directly by a lift cut into the cliff.

Rooms are arranged in eight categories, from the 22 square metre Classic rooms to the 120 square metre Virginia suite, which occupies an entire floor with its own lift and access to the swimming pool. The property has held an Environmental Management System certified to ISO 14001 since 2002, covering water and energy use, waste and noise; hot water and air conditioning run on zero-emission heat pumps, and the hotel's boat, The Dreamer, uses forward-facing propellers that cut fuel consumption by 35 per cent and CO₂ emissions by 30 per cent compared with conventional engines.
