Hotel · Miyajima, Japan
A hot spring ryokan on the Seto Inland Sea at Hatsukaichi, facing Miyajima island and the floating Itsukushima Shrine, opening 23 July 2026.
KAI Miyajima is opening on 23 July 2026 as the newest onsen ryokan in Hoshino Resorts' KAI collection, on the banks of the Seto Inland Sea directly opposite Miyajima island, where Itsukushima Shrine appears to float offshore. Tatami matting covers every floor, so guests move through the ryokan barefoot. The address is 1-1-6 Miyajimaguchinishi, Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima, four minutes by car from JR Miyajimaguchi Station, twelve minutes on foot from JR Maezora Station, and twenty minutes by ferry from Miyajima Ferry Terminal. A boat service now also links a pier beside the hotel directly to Miyajima island.
The top-floor bath hall holds outdoor baths designed so the water appears to merge with the sea, alongside indoor hot and mild baths set beside picture windows that frame the surrounding mountains. In the evenings, a cultural programme weaves Miyajima's history with storytelling and Shirabyoshi dance from the Heian period. Dinner draws on Hiroshima's food culture, pairing lemons and oysters with dishes such as the Suigun-nabe hot pot, a recipe linked to the Murakami Suigun pirates and built around octopus and conger eel. Breakfast is a Japanese-style set featuring Hiroshimakko-jiru soup, served in a vessel shaped like a Miyajima rice scoop, with a Western alternative available except from 1 to 3 January. Vegetarian kaiseki dinners and breakfasts, free of the eight major allergens, can also be arranged.
The ryokan has 54 rooms taking between 1 and 6 guests. KAI Signature Rooms feature curtains in gradated blues meant to evoke the mists of the Seto Inland Sea: open them and Miyajima fills the window. The property includes a restaurant, two cafés or lounges, two onsen, a public bath, a spa, a playroom, a pool and a meeting room. Check-in is from 2:30pm and check-out by 11am. Pets are allowed, free Wi-Fi reaches every room, and private parking is free without a reservation.
