Hotel · Shimonoseki, Japan
Overlooking the Kanmon Strait in Shimonoseki, this 187-room resort pairs fugu-focused dining with a strait-view infinity pool and a sake lees spa.
RISONARE Shimonoseki stands on the Kanmon Strait in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi, about five minutes by car or bus from JR Shimonoseki Station and some 90 minutes by train from Fukuoka Airport. The hotel has 187 rooms, each accommodating between one and five guests, and its design draws on the strait's shipping history and its local specialty, fugu pufferfish.
Dining runs across three restaurants and a café. OTTO SETTE SHIMONOSEKI, the main restaurant, serves fugu through an Italian course dinner chosen with wines selected by the in-house sommelier, with views over the strait. PUKU PUKU operates as a buffet for both breakfast and dinner, built around regional dishes such as Kawara soba, ika bakudan don and grilled or deep-fried pufferfish. Books & Cafe holds around 500 volumes on themes of the sea, travel, Yamaguchi and Shimonoseki, open through the day with a food and drink station. The spa uses body and facial treatments formulated with rice fermentation extract taken from the lees of junmai daiginjo sake, alongside rice germ oil blends. Treatments run from 60 to 120 minutes, and the spa is reserved for hotel guests aged 18 and over, with some options open from 16.
The hotel includes an indoor pool with a fugu-themed design and an outdoor waterslide of about 30 metres, plus an adults' infinity pool set against the strait, the Kanmon Bridge and passing ships. Guests can join a nightly lecture on pufferfish tied to the neighbouring Kaikyokan Aquarium, a five-minute walk away, and a tour explaining the hotel's design references. Karato Market, a pufferfish wholesale market with fresh seafood and local produce, is a ten-minute walk, and Mojiko Retro's shopping streets are a five-minute ferry ride across the strait. Parking is free for guests across 188 spaces, including two with EV charging, and pets are permitted.
Eligible preferred amenities are applied wherever available, subject to the property at the time of stay, and are confirmed in your proposal.
