Overview
Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid occupies a Belle Époque building on Plaza de la Lealtad, opened in 1910 by King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia. The hotel sits within Madrid's Golden Triangle of Art, between the Prado Museum and Retiro Park, with the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum a short walk away and the Reina Sofía Museum around fifteen minutes on foot. A restoration completed in 2021 brought the property under Mandarin Oriental management while retaining its historic turrets and Belle Époque architecture.
The hotel has 100 rooms and 53 suites, designed by the Paris studio Gilles & Boissier in a classic-contemporary style with oak wood floors and marble bathrooms. Several suites occupy the hotel's heritage turrets, dating to 1910, including the Turret Suite, the Two-Bedroom Mandarin Suite and the Two-Bedroom Ritz Suite. The Two-Bedroom Royal Suite, at 2,454 square feet, takes up an entire turret floor with views over the Prado Museum, while the Two-Bedroom Presidential Suite spans 187 square metres with a circular master bedroom, a steam room and a dining area for six, supported by butler service.
Chef Quique Dacosta oversees the hotel's restaurants and bars, among them Deessa, overlooking the hotel garden, Palm Court for all-day dining and afternoon tea beneath a glass canopy ceiling, El Jardín del Ritz for al fresco dining, and Pictura for cocktails. The Beauty Concept Spa includes private treatment rooms, a couples' suite, a heated indoor pool at 28 degrees beneath an illuminated ceiling depicting Madrid's constellations, a vitality pool, a steam room and a Technogym-equipped fitness centre open 24 hours.
