Overview

Orpheus Island Lodge sits within the Palm Island group on Queensland's Great Barrier Reef, a property of more than 1,000 hectares of national park framed by 11km of coastline. Guests reach the fringing reef directly from the beach in front of their room. The lodge holds just 14 rooms, suites and villas and takes no more than 28 guests at a time.

Accommodation is split between the South Beachfront Rooms and Suites, set among tropical gardens, and the North Beachfront Rooms, Suite and Villa, recently renovated and facing the Coral Sea. Every stay is all-inclusive: three meals prepared daily by the culinary team, a selection of Australian wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks, unlimited use of kayaks, paddleboards, a catamaran and motorised dinghies, snorkelling and fishing gear, and a daily Orpheus experience chosen by the team.

The main pavilion holds the bar, a restaurant and a reading room, next to a 25m by 13m infinity pool that faces the sea. Gwandalan Day Spa, its name meaning peaceful rest, offers facials, massages and body treatments. Executive Chef Paul Wilson, who previously worked at Restaurant Geranium in Copenhagen and led the kitchen at Wildflower at COMO The Treasury in Perth, now leads the Orpheus kitchen. The lodge holds an Advanced Ecotourism certification from Ecotourism Australia and works with James Cook University and the Orpheus Island Research Station on reef recovery.
