Overview

Silky Oaks Lodge sits above the Mossman River on the edge of the Daintree National Park, a World Heritage-listed wilderness in North Queensland. The property covers 32 hectares of rainforest, roughly 80 minutes by road from Cairns and 20 minutes from Port Douglas, the town that serves as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Forty treehouse-style suites are built with local timbers and set among the tree canopy, each with a verandah and hammock looking out to the river or the forest. Children ten years and over are welcome.

Room categories range from the Rainforest Retreat, at 42 square metres with a king bed and a deep spa bath, up to the Daintree Pavilion, a 323 square metre two-bedroom suite with its own infinity pool. The Riverhouse and Billabong Suite each include a private outdoor bathtub, and the Billabong Suite adds a deck fireplace. The open-air Treetop Restaurant serves contemporary Australian food with Asian influences, built around produce suited to the tropical climate. The Healing Waters Spa, inspired by the Mossman River, has six treatment rooms with rainforest or river views, a couples' room and a Vichy shower, and uses the Australian-made alkeme skincare range.

The lodge works as a base for the Daintree Rainforest, Mossman Gorge, Cape Tribulation and the Great Barrier Reef, with tours by First Nations Kuku Yalanji guides, river drift experiences, helicopter flights and reef charters available through local operators. Daily yoga classes run at 7.30am in the open-air Marrdja Pavilion and are complimentary for lodge guests. A daily shuttle runs to and from Port Douglas.
