Within the Mara Triangle, a section of Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve, Wilderness Mara occupies the site of the former Little Governors' Camp, completely rebuilt into twelve tented suites along the edge of a marsh ecosystem. The Mara Triangle is managed by the Mara Conservancy, a conservation model noted for lower visitor density, well-maintained roads and active anti-poaching patrols.
Each suite has an elevated private deck with indoor and outdoor showers. Camp facilities include a spa, a gym, a pool with a lounge, and the Study, a quiet room where guests can read about Wilderness' Impact work or process photographs from the day. A private footbridge gives direct access to both sides of the Mara River, extending the ground guests can cover on game drives.
Menus draw on Kenyan produce, including Maasai honey and coastal spices, with a Taste of Africa dish served each evening, and a Manyatta dinner under the stars built around fire cooking and Maasai culture. Game drives run at sunrise and sunset, with sightings that can include large elephant, zebra and antelope herds, resident black rhino, serval and bat-eared fox, alongside more than 470 recorded bird species such as martial eagle, blue swallow, grey crowned crane and rufous-bellied heron. Guests can also take a hot air balloon safari at extra cost or visit a local Maasai manyatta. The camp supports conservation and community work in the area, including a tree nursery intended to supply 15,000 saplings for Nyekweri Forest restoration and the Mara Rianda Clinic, which provides healthcare to the local Maasai community.
